Dr. Herbert Stallworth, College of the Mainland President 1967-1971

Dr. Herbert Stallworth was president of the College of the Mainland from 1967-1971, the first president of the College.

Dr. Stallworth was chosen by the College of the Mainland Board of Trustees in late March as the man best qualified to head up the new College. He and Mrs. Stallworth came to Texas City at that time to accept the appointment.

Dr. Stallworth came to the College from Western Piedmont Community in Morgantown, N.C. with experience in college development. He was associated with Miami – Dade Junior College which grew from an enrollment of 1,600 to 20,000 in seven years; the University of West Florida where he worked on Spaces & Functions; the Florida Atlantic University in Liaison; and served as president at Community College.

Born in Consul, Alabama, Dr. Stallworth attained his B. A. Degree at University of Florida in 1948 and his Ph. D in 1951. He was a Phi Delta Kappa, with a wide variety of professional affiliations.
